The University of Strathclyde: A place of useful learning

The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow is one of the UK’s leading universities. Founded in 1796 and granted its Royal Charter in 1964, the ethos of ‘useful learning’ has always been at the heart of what Strathclyde offers.
Today, Strathclyde is the third largest university in Scotland and welcomes more than 23,000 full-time students from over 100 countries who are attracted by the University’s strong academic reputation and stimulating study environment.

The University of Strathclyde was awarded Times Higher Education University of the Year 2019 - the only university to be awarded the UK-wide award for a second time and is a Top 20 UK university for research intensity (Times Higher Education’s analysis of REF2014). Strathclyde is 15th in The Guardian’s University Guide 2021 with 16 subjects placed in the UK top 20.

The University has an excellent reputation not only in teaching and research but also for its strong links with industry and the commercial sector and entrpreneurial outlook.

Every year thousands of students make Strathclyde their first choice thanks to our world-class reputation, but also because Strathclyde is a friendly and forward-thinking university based in the heart of Glasgow, one of Europe’s finest cities.

The University has four faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering, Science, and the Strathclyde Business School. We offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in all disciplines and we are recognised as one of the largest providers of postgraduate education in the UK. Research is of central importance in everything that we do at Strathclyde. It informs our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and allows us to translate findings into impact which makes a difference to business, industry and society as a whole.
